1. Introduction
Welcome to Smoothify (com.smoothify.smoothify), a mobile audio player application for Android. This Privacy Policy describes how AlphaGen ("we", "our", or "us") processes information and data when you use the Smoothify application.
Smoothify is designed primarily as a local music player. AlphaGen does not operate any proprietary backends, servers, custom analytics systems, or proprietary crash-reporting databases for this application. The primary storage of your musical library metadata, settings, and playback history remains on your device.
2. Information We Access and Process
To deliver core playback features, Smoothify requires access to certain Android system features and permissions. These are used strictly to run the local audio player engine (powered by Android Media3/ExoPlayer):
android.permission.READ_MEDIA_AUDIO(Android 13 and later): Used to scan, index, and load local audio files on your device.android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE(Android 12 and earlier): Used for the same functional purpose of reading your local music files on older Android versions.android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS(Android 13 and later): Used to display the persistent media player notification, giving you access to playback controls (Play, Pause, Skip) directly from your lock screen and notification shade.android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE&android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK(Android 14 and later): Required to run our background playback service (PlaybackServicederiving fromMediaSessionService), allowing your music to keep playing uninterrupted when the app is minimized or the screen is turned off.android.permission.WAKE_LOCK: Used in the context of active audio playback to prevent the Android system from putting the audio hardware pipeline to sleep, preventing audio stuttering. Note: Smoothify's sleep timer feature uses an absolute deadline timestamp and does not hold any separate or unnecessary WakeLocks.
3. Local Music Files
Smoothify reads the audio files stored locally on your device to create your library, index track information, and handle playback.
- No Server Uploads: Your audio files are never uploaded, sent, or streamed to any server operated by AlphaGen.
- No Backend Communication: We do not have any proprietary backend infrastructure capable of receiving, storing, or sharing your music files. Your music files remain strictly under your control on your physical device.
4. Local Application Data
To enrich your listening experience, Smoothify stores structural information locally on your device:
- Local Databases (Room DB): Stores song metadata (title, artist, album, genre, release year), custom playlists, favorited tracks, and local listening stats (play counts).
- Preferences (SharedPreferences): Stores configurations such as language choice, visual theme settings (dark/light mode), interface accent colors, 8D audio LFO speeds, equalizer (DSP) configurations, audio balance, stereo width, seek durations, and lists of hidden folders or tracks.
All of this data is kept locally on your device within the secure sandbox provided by Android. It is never transmitted to AlphaGen.
5. Backup and Restore
Smoothify includes a manual backup feature allowing you to export your playlists, custom metadata edits, play counts, and preferences into a JSON file (smoothify_backup.json).
- No Encryption: The exported JSON file is written in plain text and is not encrypted by Smoothify.
- User Responsibility: The file is saved locally to the location you specify using the Android document picker. You are solely responsible for where you store, copy, or share this backup file. We strongly recommend storing it in a secure location and avoiding public sharing.
6. Advertising — Google AdMob
To support development, Smoothify integrates Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) through the official Google SDK:
- SDK Dependency:
com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads:23.0.0 - Ad Formats: Interstitial Ads.
- Third-Party Processing: AdMob is a third-party advertising service. When requesting ads, Google may collect and process technical data, which may include:
- Device Advertising ID (Ad ID) and device characteristics.
- Network information (such as your IP address).
- Ad interactions (impressions, clicks, watch duration).
- Diagnostic and performance logs related to the ad SDK.
This data is processed directly by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. AlphaGen does not collect, receive, or store this advertising data on its own.
7. Consent Management — Google UMP
To ensure compliance with regional regulations (such as the GDPR in Europe), Smoothify integrates the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK:
- SDK Dependency:
com.google.android.ump:user-messaging-platform:2.2.0 - Operation: At the first launch (or when required), a consent form is displayed to users in the EEA and the UK. AdMob is initialized only if the consent status satisfies ad request requirements (
canRequestAds()returnstrue). - Revocation/Changes: You can change your consent settings at any time via the "Privacy Options" button in the Privacy section of the application settings (where applicable).
- Offline Mode: If you launch the app for the first time without an internet connection, the UMP flow will fail gracieously without showing ads or initializing AdMob, and you can play your local music offline without interruption.
8. Third-Party Services
Smoothify integrates services only from the following third-party provider:
- Google Inc. (AdMob & UMP)
- Purpose: Ad delivery and regulatory consent management.
- Data Processing: Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Privacy Policy Link: Google Privacy Policy
We do not integrate any other third-party SDKs (such as Facebook, Firebase, Sentry, Unity, or other tracking utilities).
9. Data Sharing
Smoothify does not sell, lease, trade, or share any personal data. Except for the technical and diagnostic identifiers processed automatically by the Google SDKs (AdMob and UMP) as described in Sections 6 and 7, no data—including your local audio files, playlists, play history, preferences, or settings—is shared with third parties.
10. Data Security
We apply industry-standard practices to ensure the security of the application:
- Secure Builds: All release keystores, credentials, and signing keys are kept strictly out of the public source code repository and are injected via secure environment variables.
- Local Sandboxing: Smoothify stores database records within the secure app directory, meaning other apps cannot access them under normal Android security policies.
- Please note: Since manual JSON backups are not encrypted, you are responsible for securing the exported files.
11. Data Retention
- Local Data: All playlists, favorites, history, and preferences remain stored on your device until you clear the app's cache/data, uninstall the application, or use the "Reset Database" option in the settings.
- Third-Party Data: Data processed by Google AdMob/UMP is retained according to Google's standard retention policies.
12. User Rights and Privacy Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your information, such as:
- Access & Deletion: You can inspect or modify your library details inside the app, export your data via the Backup feature, or delete it all by clearing your app data in Android settings.
- Permissions Control: You can revoke storage or notification permissions in Android settings at any time.
- Consent Control: Users in applicable regions can update their consent choices via the "Privacy Options" link in the app's settings.
13. Children's Privacy
Smoothify is not designed to collect personal data from children. The application complies with all age policies and requirements of the Google Play Console, and does not target children under the age of 13.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this document. We recommend checking this page periodically to stay informed about how your data is protected.
